Caviar20 is thrilled to be offering this evocative work by , one of the most revered and unique artists of the 20th century.
Nevelson is renowned for her complex, distinctive style and versatility across a variety of mediums. Although she is best known as a sculptor, she expanded her practice by exploring different branches of printmaking throughout her career, experimenting with different techniques and materials.
“Moon Garden” is a superb example of Nevelsonʼs impressive molded reliefs in black paper pulp. A paradigm of her visual language, it demonstrates her ability to translate her sculptural work into printmaking. This piece utilizes the technique of cast paper, where paper fibre or pulp is formed into a mold and creates a relief.
Completed in her signature monochromatic black, the raised depth of the forms accentuates the mysterious composition from the dark paper. The striking shapes of the work feature Nevelsonʼs signature forms and textures that appear both ancient and futuristic, alluding to African art, Egyptian hieroglyphs, cubism and post-apocalyptic architecture.
